Accessibility Statement

1. Commitment

Sanofi is committed to providing digital solutions that are accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability, disability, race, cultural background, gender, or technological requirements.

2. Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines 3 levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA, due to the limitations described below.

3. Known limitations

Navigation and Interaction Issues

  • Missing Focus Indicators: Several interactive elements, including cookie consent buttons, navigation links, and form controls lack visible focus indicators, creating barriers for keyboard users
  • Skip Link Functionality: The "Skip To Main Content" link in the page header does not function as expected, preventing keyboard users from bypassing repetitive navigation
  • Nested Interactive Elements: Navigation menu items contain nested interactive elements, causing navigation difficulties and unexpected behavior for keyboard and screen reader users
  • Status Messages Not Announced: Form validation errors and success messages are not programmatically announced to screen reader users, affecting the registration form and interactive elements

Content Structure and Alternatives

  • Missing Text Alternatives for Complex Images: Complex diagrams and charts throughout the site, including PIRA charts and disability progression diagrams, lack comprehensive text alternatives for screen reader users.
  • Improper Heading Structure: Heading levels in the Patient Stories section and timeline elements are not properly nested, disrupting the logical reading order for screen reader users.
  • Improper List Markup: Content that visually appears as lists, particularly in the PIRA statistics section, is not properly marked up as lists for screen reader users.
  • Inappropriate Heading Usage: Multiple text elements throughout the content areas are incorrectly coded as headings when they do not function as section headers.
  • Missing Quotation Markup: Patient testimonials and quotes in the Patient Stories section lack proper block quote markup for screen reader identification.

Color and Contrast Issues

  • Insufficient Control Contrast: Multiple interactive elements, including footer links, cookie consent buttons, and navigation items fail to meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio requirement.
  • Focus Indicator Contrast: Focus indicators throughout the site, including on cards, form elements, and navigation items, do not meet the minimum 3:1 contrast ratio requirement.
  • Visual Boundary Contrast: Form fields, video controls, and toggle switches lack sufficient contrast for their boundaries, making them difficult to perceive for users with low vision.
  • Color-Only Information: Video setting controls use color as the only means to convey information, without text alternatives for users who cannot perceive color differences.

Form and Media Issues

  • Missing Autocomplete Attributes: Form fields in the registration section lack appropriate autocomplete attributes, reducing usability for users with cognitive disabilities.
  • Form Error Identification: Error messages in the registration form do not clearly identify which fields contain errors, creating confusion for screen reader users.
  • Missing Audio Descriptions: Videos in the Patient Stories section lack audio descriptions for visual content that is not conveyed through dialogue.
  • Auto-playing Content Control: Animated statistics and graphics throughout the site lack mechanisms to pause, stop, or hide the content, potentially causing distraction.

Responsive Design and Link Issues

  • Responsive Design Limitations: Some content becomes inaccessible or is cut off when the page is viewed at narrow widths (320px) or with adjusted text spacing
  • Ambiguous Link Text: Links in the "Hear from the experts" section use generic text like "Watch now" without sufficient context for screen reader users
  • Duplicate Control Names: Multiple controls with identical names ("Play video" buttons, "Cookie Details" buttons) perform different actions without distinguishing context
